¿Qué te falta hacer en México, con quién te gustaría un featuring?
-Me gustaría grabar con Luis Miguel. Me encanta Luis Miguel, me encanta la serie también, está bien hecha; pensé que sería una porquería y no por él, sino porque normalmente cuando hacen series biográficas de la gente la cagan.
La de él me gustó, es una leyenda. Me debieron haber contratado a mí como actor principal, pero todo bien.
¿Te gustaría grabar un video en México?
-Yo quisiera grabar como 800 videos en México, quiero ir pa’ las pirámides, también sé que hay un sitio donde hay nieve, ahí tengo que hacer algo. México es un sitio increíble para grabar, aquí el mismo centro se ve brutal, quizás para un mexicano es normal pero a mí me resulta increíble visualmente.
¿Incluirías a un intérprete de otro género en tus proyectos? ¿A alguien inesperado?
-Sí, de seguro. A mí me gustaría Buscabulla, una banda indie de Puerto Rico. También Robi Draco Rosa, estaría brutal hacer algo con él.
Pienso que con cualquier artista se podría, por ejemplo Drake que consiguió voces de Michael Jackson que se grabaron en el 83 y logró aplicarlas, Michael parece parte del proyecto, no se siente como que Drake se fue a hacer otra cosa para encajar. Parece como si literalmente ellos hubiesen grabado esta canción; pienso que como estamos en el 2018, todo se presta a que cualquier artista con cualquier voz nítida se pueda incorporar y hacer algo chévere.
¿Qué hay sobre una voz femenina de aquí?
-Me encanta Carla Morrison, Natalia Lafourcade. Ese tipo de flow me encantaría, con Natalia seguro sería el hit de la historia, ella en los coritos y yo en los versos. Me encanta colaborar y yo soy fan justamente de eso.
Soy muy fan de Kanye West y de Lupe Fiasco. Lupe Fiasco consigue colaboraciones y siempre los coros los hace con un artista que no tenía nada en común con él, eso hace que su música sea bien interesante. Al criarme escuchando esas cosas, formé mi mentalidad; yo tenía panas míos acá haciendo rock y cantando coros conmigo, ahora quizás no les choca tanto porque se ha hecho más estable pero en ese momento cuando se las ponía a mis amigos, no les hacía sentido. Pero es justo eso lo que le da el sentido. Si pudiera recomendarme a algún artista, yo estaría dispuesto a mandarle un DM para colaborar.
¿Qué es lo más representativo que nos traes de Puerto Rico?
Yo creo que el slang. La manera en la que yo hablo, las palabras que utilizo, yo siento que tú puedes escucharme desde bien lejos y sabes que este tipo es boricua.
Y es algo que otros artistas suelen evitar, yo lo podría evitar, ellos sí hablan con la erre correctamente y todas esas cosas. Siento que el slang es bien importante, que eso está en mi música porque es lo que me hace ser yo, ya que experimento con otros ritmos y cosas que quizás no son tan representativas de Puerto Rico.
Mi música no es salsa, no es un reggaetón, pero es bien puertorriqueña. Eso puede cerrarme algunas puertas pero no tengo miedo porque me representa; por eso respeto a artistas que también se mantienen ahí como que hablando con el slang mexicano.
¿Y de México que te llevas?
-Muchas de las cosas en cuestión de escribir, en cuestión de cultura, en cuestión de lo que me gustaría. Ahora mismo se está formando una escena en Puerto Rico, antes no había una escena de lo que yo hago, aquí hay un público, hay un reportero, hay gente apoyando el movimiento; eso hace que esto siga creciendo, cuando venía –ya hace años- a México y veía todo esto y lo que hacían, era envidiar pero de una manera bonita. Decía que ojalá eso pasara en mi país.
Ahora mismo ves todos estos medios; en Puerto Rico no existen medios cool. Hay un par: un muchacho que hace podcast –se llama Chente y es mi pana- y otra página que se llama Rapetón, con todo lo que pasa en Puerto Rico son los únicos dos medios con los que tú podrías acercarte al público; a diferencia de aquí que puedes hacer cantidad de cosas, hay mucha gente con la que puedes hablar y que te puede ayudar. De cierta manera ustedes me están ayudando, a que la gente conozca quién es Álvaro Díaz, a que las cosas se rieguen. En Puerto Rico todavía no sucede.
Esas son las cosas que yo viniendo pa’ México veía y pensaba que quizás así debían hacerse en mi país. Hay mucho para aprender aquí.
¿Algún lugar del mundo que no hayas visitado y al que te gustaría llevar tu música?
-Japón, definitivo. Aunque no me entiendan. Veo muchas reacciones de artistas americanos allá y de un underground, de cómo la gente reacciona en esos shows y se nota que la gente está dejándose llevar por vibras y no por la letra. Pienso que estaría brutal ir para Japón a hacer música y unos shows, además culturalmente me encantaría conocer. Que yo no soy mucho de sushi pero bueno, hago el sacrificio.
¿Qué necesita Álvaro Díaz al final del día para relajarse?
-Realmente despegarme del celular un poco, esa es clave. Tengo que poner el celular en airplane mode. Y la playa, yo creo que especialmente estos días que he estado en Puerto Rico me he dado cuenta de que en verdad la playa es el sitio que más me relaja, al estar ahí uno se olvida de todo lo que está pasando. Eso y conversar.
¿Algo dirigido a la gente que ya está lista para el SALA el 21 de septiembre?
-Que estén listos, que vayan cómodos, vamos a brincar, vamos a cantar. Y que la van a pasar muy bien, espero darles una de las mejores presentaciones que hayan visto. Esa es la meta, que la gente se vaya de ahí y diga que valió la pena.

When I originally commented I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there a way you can remove me from that service? Cheers!
